VIDEO REPORT:
OFFENSE
Shooting: Shooting is definitely his main strength. He was a high usage guy and took more than 15 shots per game and around a third of those were three point shots. He was making them in solid percentages but his release looks really smooth and I think he will be able to convert them in similar if not even better percentages in the future. Great transition from the dribble into the shot, good follow through and has the ability to create separation. He is capable of making difficult shots on a higher level too.
Slashing: His slashing game is also on a high level already. Explosive and aggressive when going to the rim and has decent handles so he can break the defender in iso plays. Not really the best size for a shooting guard but he uses every inch and pound of his body in around the rim finishes. Very good at drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line where he is also pretty efficient. He can be the go-to-guy when you give him the ball and he will make something happen.
Pick & Rolls: A big and important part of Jordan’s game are pick & roll plays. He is pretty good in those situations and as a great scorer he is dangerous on all levels but has a good eye for his team mates too. If the defense puts too much attention on him he can punish that with some nice assists. Can deliver passes on different spots and in different directions and is a complete pick & roll player. I think most teams on mid to top level could use him in their offensive schemes.
Playmaking: Jordan has the ability to run as a primary playmaker from time to time. As mentioned before, his court vision and passing game are on a high level and he also makes quick and solid decisions. Better and more useful as the main scorer but has the qualities to run the offense as a playmaker for a few minutes per game.
Transition: Transition is also an area where Jordan can make a lot of damage. He likes to run without the ball and is unpredictable when he is stopping and taking a shot or when he is going all the way to the rim. Not the quickest as a ball handler in transition and I think he can improve in this area.
Off-Ball Movement & Cutting: Jordan is also very good in moving without the ball. He was sometimes guarded really closely and the defense was not giving him much space but he punished that with aggressive cuts to the rim. Great court awareness and finds open spots on the court be it with or without the ball.
DEFENSE
Perimeter Defense: Even though he is such a great scorer, he can play good in defense too. Good footwork and slides his feet well. Sometimes can be caught on the wrong foot or out of balance but overall his reactions are quick and he is capable of playing solid defense on perimeter. It is not to be expected that he will be an elite defender but he shouldn’t be the worst defender in his team.
Pick & Roll Defense: His pick & roll defense is also on a decent level. Anticipates the screen and positions his feet well and in time to maneuver around the screen smoothly. Smart pick & roll defender, not afraid of contact and not moved around so easily. An underrated part of his game but he can make some stops in pick & roll defense and he is a good pick & roll player on both sides of the court.
Steals: Jordan uses his good understanding and reading of the game very well when going for steals. Reads the offense well and has good anticipation when to go for steals. Not the longest arms but active and quick and he can make some pocket steals or intercept some passes. Averaged almost 2 steals per game and was amongst the best in the league in steals per game.
SUMMARY
Jordan Floyd is, in my opinion, one of the players that will play in some international competition sooner or later. Has a great scoring game and can make some points basically out of any situation. But he is not just a scorer but has an eye for team mates too, basically a complete offensive player.
In defense he is good in defending pick & rolls and on perimeter but has a hard time against bigger guys on post ups. If some top level team won’t pick him up this year, he will be on their radars in a few years for sure.
I think he is one of those players that could make a great career in Europe and that we will hear his name a lot in the future.
