Kyle Alexander is another player with high potential and that could climb the levels in Europe. He wasn’t dominating in any statistical aspects but if we look at his per36 numbers, his stats look very good for his first year in Europe.

OFFENSE

Shooting: Shooting from distance is an area where I think he can improve and become a bigger threat. He wasn’t taking many shots from distance but from the limited sample size, his mechanics look completely fine and he can develop into a stretch big. Was taking much more shots from mid range and on short rolls and he was pretty efficient in those situations. I think over the years he will get the confidence and touch from long range and he will become at least a decent shooter behind the three point line.

Pick & Rolls: A big strength from Kyle is his pick & roll game. He is really mobile for a big man and dangerous as a roller. His hands are good and can catch most passes. Also as mentioned before, really good as a short roller with great touch from mid range. Can improve as a screen setter and set harder screens and as a stretcher when he gets more consistent as a shooter from distance.

Off-Ball Movement & Cutting: Another area where Kyle is very good at is his off-ball movement and cutting. He moves well without the ball and offers himself to his teammates under the rim or at the dunker spot. Has great court awareness and usually finds the holes and empty spots on the court. When he is paired with a great playmaker, Kyle can excel and score some points.

Post Up: Post up game needs some improvements. He has good positional size but not playing much on post ups and is not efficient in those situations. I think he can learn some go-to moves and create some points from post ups especially because his jump hook touch looks completely fine.

Transition: With his athleticism and mobility Kyle is also a good player in transition but uses this too rarely. Should run more often and more aggressively because he has all the tools to be an impactful rim runner. He has the potential to outrun most of the bigs in Europe and I’m sure he will use this in his favour more often in the future.

Offensive Rebounding: Kyle is showing some great feel for offensive rebounds. Averaged 2.7 offensive rebounds per game and was amongst the best in the league in this category. Good instincts where the ball is going and also actively going for offensive rebounds. Offensive rebounding is something that most teams will expect from Kyle and he should continue to dominate in this area.

DEFENSE

Perimeter Defense: Kyle has great footwork and with his athleticism and mobility he is able to stop smaller players on perimeter. Active feet and with his length he covers a lot of ground and is not beaten easily. Definitely something teams are looking for in modern bigs and Kyle has the ability to switch on smaller players.

Pick & Roll Defense: As mentioned before, Kyle has no problems switching in pick & roll defense but can improve in other areas. His drop defense for example needs some improvements for sure. He is often not positioned well and lost on the court not guarding the roller or ball handler. He needs to be more aware of that and improve in this part of his pick & roll defense. Similar with his hedges. He is usually just going through the motions and showing up but not really disrupting the play. I think there are some things to improve in his pick & roll defense and I expect he will work on that in next years.

Blocks: Kyle has good instincts for blocks. With his vertical pop, timing and length he can contest most shots at the rim and even make some blocks. Averaged 1.8 blocks per36 and I think he will get even better in this with more experience. Contests shots as a helpside defender, also made a few blocks after he was already beaten on drives and I have no complaints about his rim protection and I believe this can translate to any level.

Rebounding: As mentioned in the offensive rebounding section, Kyle has great feel for rebounds. Great second jump and can compete with anyone. His high reach enables him to grab some rebounds in traffic too. Very good rebounder and definitely something Kyle can do on top level.

SUMMARY

Kyle Alexander is an interesting player because of his physical tools and versatility.

In offense he is a little raw and has room for improvements in post ups and shot from distance. Showing some good touch and feel for the game already and I’m pretty sure he will improve in those areas.

Defensively he has great legs and can switch in defense but needs more work on his positioning on drop defense.

Overall he has the talent for international competitions and I think we will see him in Eurocup or Euroleague sooner or later.
